Standing in the water of Bacalar Lagoon in Mexico, I had a magical moment of deep connection to the mangrove trees. As soon as I was back on land, I grabbed a pencil to jot down what I'd seen. 

Once home in my studio the sketch became a painting which had some transformative magic of its own. After painting it on 9" x 12" paper it just didn't capture the feeling of my moment. It felt too contained. To solve that, I added pieces of paper on each side to express the feeling of our connection to the eternal that I had experienced standing in the water.

The Bacalar Lagoon was formed millions of years ago when the comet hit the Yucatan Peninsula, changing Earth forever. It's a magical place for sure.
