I’ve always been inspired by the ancient world. During a visit to the Ancient Near East collection at the NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art, I spent many hours sketching the small engravings found on fragments of containers dating to the mid-third millennium B.C. This style—the "Intercultural Style"— includes vegetal, architectural, and abstract or naturalistic representations of people and animals. Later, back in my studio, some of these sketches came together in this painting, Garden of Light 1
